Very vibrant Gary! I aint seen owt like that round us. Fairly lacking in fungi tbh around here.

Plenty of various fungi about down here at the moment. I found (smelt) a good example of a stinkhorn today, dripping nicely from the trunk of an alder.

very new to fungi, could one of you suggest a good field guide as I'm really interested in them, loads round the woods where I live in Cumbria but I can't ID a single one !!

Found this at the base of a Douglas fir today. Very wet and rainy so the bracket was quite wet when I took the shot. 

 

I am not sure if it is Gloeophyllum sepiarium or Inonotus cuticularis or something completely different. 

 

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Not too sure on that one. Its quite close though the spores are more grey. But could be.

Looks like heterobasidium annosum, conifers are the main host.
