Recommended Posts

We are looking to purchase a new winch to use on the back of our valtra/unimog having looked at several different brands on the internet i thought i would ask on here to see who can reccomend what and point out the pro's and cons etc , so far im no further forward that i was when i started looking , also an idea on cost would be great !! it seems that no one wants to commit to putting a price beside the winches that they are selling lol

Bought this Rabaud 6 tonne last year. I have had one of their large log splitters for years, with no problems so thought I would try their winches. Its build quality is very good and it dose what I need it to do, which is mostly arb work. Manual hydraulic lever, but I wished I had got the remote control model. Phone Jim Watt. Caledonian Forestry Services. Auchterarder. Perth.01764663798. He will give you all the info. I paid 5k

Hope this helps,

Robert.

Pay the extra and get electro-hydraulic. Have used a KRPAN 7t, Fransgard 5 manual, Igland 8t double drum and now got a BGU 9.5 HV Profi. The igland and bgu are the best by far, both remote control and the bgu has power outfeed - oh my does this make life easier. Pulling the cable out of the manual krpan is darn hard work and the operating ropes imo gangly and the clutch control is no comparison to EH. Productivity is massively higher with the bgu than with the manual ones. You are welcome to come and see the bgu in action if you want; pulling larch long distances at the moment...

I eventually went for the electro hydraulic Krpan.

I would have liked the hydraulic out-feed as well, but could not justify it.

I might yet retro-fit the radio remote.

I would agree with Stephen that one reasonably gets what one pays for.

I did not need Igland quality or finesse.

The only comments I would have is

(i) the quite acute angle the short PTO shaft runs at, due to the off-set stub on the winch.

(ii) The NOISE (& yes, I had to shout) from the chain drive (I concluded)

Again Igland, if I recall, has the PTO stub central on the winch with the winch drum above.

Cheers

ditto about the krpan noise, whir whir whir! So the EH is no quieter then? The BGU is near silent.

TCD,

Live and learn, or experience always costs.

I wondered was it the acute angle PTO making the noise, but concluded the coarse chain was a more likely cause.

sigh

PS

How is the BGU driven?

I would have presumed chain?, but a better engineered one?
