The Kelly kettle owners thread

One thing always puzzled me - my Kelly has a cork on a chain and the instructions say do not boil with cork in place (even though it has a hole in). So what's the difference to having a whistle on???

The cork is just there to be able to carry water in it when cold.

If you leave the cork in when boiling water, the steam will heat and expand the cork, it will get stuck ( even if it is in very loose ) and will come out with a pop if you're lucky.

If you're not that lucky the kettle will pop, boiling water/steam explosion, lots of scope for pain....

Don't ask me how I know this.....

Well..... This guy I know..... Ahem, "a friend" did that once,

Or twice.....

The first time, the cork got stuck and shot out, tipping over the kettle but no more damage done.

The second time, the kettle popped its seems along the bottom edge...

Just from what "my friend" told me......

I've got the 1pt ali Kelly kettle and one of the bigger ones too (don't know how big but think it could be 2 - 2.5pt) and only ever seem to use the smaller one. Fits nicely behind the cubby box in the 90 and does enough for two cups.

The bigger kettle has the cook kit with it but I've never had chance to try it out. Not convinced it would be that much cop.

:laugh1: don't suppose he ever forgot one while on the fire and got on with felling till he felt like tea at about four-ish, only to find a puddle of aluminium where the kettle once was? No, me neither....
