no the lowering bollard in the picture is set directly center

in your pic it looks like the bollard is set higher than centre like the GRSC and Hobbs? the basic idea of your device is good, all I'm getting at is it could be better.

I've added a pic below yours of a design that sits the bollard in the centre of the baseplate which is a backwards step from the GRCS/Hobbs design especially when you look at the mounting attachment points for a single strap.

The last pic (Acemaster) is an example of why the inverted T shape baseplate is important and helps to firmly stabilise the lowering device to the tree despite sideways tension. These little design features do make a difference.

so thats all i need then ! loler man has gave my home made one a number so it s legal

The word you are looking for is (LOLER) compliant, not having a number dosent make it ilegal as an item but using it without a current inspection is not advised as the ofence would be using it not owning it.

Having a LOLER inspection makes it LOLER compliant, how you deal with it under PUWER is another issue, and no its not a minefield or grey area, its just another part of legislation you need to be aware of and deal with.

I agree with Scots Pine on the issue of strap position in relation to bollard position.

However, I have a Stein Dual and notice that all the Stein bollards have the strap in line with the bollard and they work fine.

This is true, but if you read the instructions that come with your Stein you'll see it also says to back it up with a further sling set on the tree beneath the device and attached to the bottom eye.

Also in the case of take downs(rigging heavy wood) the stein is cut into the trunk. Not sure the hobbs or grcs state this in their set up?
