We came across this on a site we manage.

I'm thinking a chestnut of sorts judging by the buds and leaf but then theres the splitting bark - it looks terminal in places though seems to be having no impact on the health of the tree. Any help appreciated- it is heavily mistletoed

Thanks for that

I guess you're not concerned about the cracking bark. Its like that in 2 or three areas though the bark underneath is sound. Is that normal with aesculus pavia

Sometimes, depending on the age. From the last pic, those bark plates look healthy underneath anyway, but I can only see from photos shown so don't hold me to anything:lol:

Yes I would say very healthy underneath and no dead wood in the tree. Thanks for confirming my gut feeling on this. I'm never wholly happy with split bark but this does seem like natural shedding.
