Been thinking of trying squirrel for years but been put off by peoples comments about them being tree rats and the like :001_rolleyes:.

Boiled these 2 and then fried them with a couple of rashers of bacon :thumbup1:

If they have to be shot or trapped chucking them in the hedge is a real waste  boiled for 20 minutes and fried makes a tasty meal :thumbup1:

A very clean meat both to cook and eat, the oil in the frying pan came out as clean as it went in.

As for flavour, Its like chicken but without the fishy after taste. the meat parts from the bone well the only down side is 2 squirells were'nt really enough for a growing lad like myself.

I have a mate who has eaten squirrel for so many years he cant remember how long, as long as they are health animals I can see no problem. Nature has her own way of weeding out the sick so if you know where it came from you should be ok.

just watch out for this bugger

With food prices always going up and quality going the opposite way Im glad I have other sources of food available to me and my family.

I have turned down pheasent and fowl in the past but my thinking has changed, Im going to put the word out and fill the freezer this season.
