We had a heli hover over us a couple of weeks ago it was massive and matt black, it was like having a man made death cloud of metal over our heads, scary stuff.

The mood was lightened when I told groundy it was probably a sea king and his reply was " yeah its definatly up to something "

He though I said seeking :001_rolleyes:

I'm afraid I won't be doing it. They don't do it in Poole. We don't get the chance unless we ask. It's not seen as crucial for us as the chances of needing a helicopter in our area is slim.

When I served on the Torbay lifeboat we regularly had excersises with helicopters, either Portland or Navy, what those pilots can't do with a helicopter isn't worth doing, the Pilots and Navy officers are required to winch to and from a moving vessel, might be worth finding out when this is and hook up, they were only to pleased to get involved when we made the call, sounds like your day was pretty cool!

Today on the local army base the traffic lights went to red on me , and it was a sea king rescue helicopter coming in to land. Great noise. Looked surreal coming in like a plane rather than up and down.

They where British mate. The medic chopper couldn't get in so they used the apache. I remember that story very well.

Just read the book of this op written by one of the pilots who landed. It turned out that the marines hadn't heard a single word of the briefing due to the noise from the apaches:p
