Which Honda engine for my splitter?

5hp is nowhere near enough, it will stall constantly or be painfully slow.

All engines will run a 3000psi pump, but it's the volume of the pump that is the cruical thing. The lower the volume the less the HP needed, try putting a higher volume pump on a low HP engine and it will stall

Measure you cylinder or go on logsplitter websites and look at the spec of the machines they sell, in the spec it should give you the tonnage and volume of the pump and some even give the cycle times how long it takes for the ram to do a full cycle in and out

You should be able to obtain all your info from that

As Dean points out.... if the specs all match a smallish engine can exert high pressure with good cycle times.

Just purchased Wallenstien 980 eu @31 ton force from the Honda 270.

Not been able to lift what it cannot split!
