Was hedging with 261 yesterday and every time I applied the chain brake it would squeel :confused1: I have phoned jonsie and its being collected as I write this, yes its had a hard year of work but for a £500.00 saw should the needle bearings and clutch problems be minor not majour, 3rd time its been back to main dealer now, at what point will stihl replace it or will they keep on fixing it ?

Once the brake is on the clutch drum bearing will be working,& with the clutch band load on it,if the bearing is shot it could cause the noise.

I thought they had a fix for this problem with a different clutch drum & sprocket.

It will need a new cranksaft, I know of five other ms 261 that had endless needle bearing and clutch issues, they all ended up having new crank shafts to sort the problem, i dont know whether it must be a faulty batch or not.

good luck.

It had original sproket on but that got upgraded to the newer supposidly tougher spur sproket, however it doesn't seem to be any better, very dissapointing on a pro saw as you say, I wil see what happens in the next few days as they should have the saw by tommorow
