Odd firewood complaints

Not wanting to come across blunt but I can not see the point in making lads work an extra hour doing logging at the end of a day best way to get low moral and no matter how hard working they would soon get pissed off with that .:001_smile:

But he didn't say an extra hour. He said the last hour of work. So it comes back to your getting paid to do a job.

Or try doing the first hour of the day logging. At least they get nice and warm before starting. :001_cool:

There is two ways of looking at this. If you paid the hours you want the work but then again if your men have put their back into and cracked the job out by 3 they dont want to be dragged back to a shed till dark. swings and roundabouts different people swing different ways.

I meant the last hour sorry. The blokes i have on for me work hard so at the end of the day it the pub not the yard. Dont get me wrong the minute they start rushing or the place is not left how we found it then firewood at the yard would become the norm. But there not full time so that makes a difference:001_smile:.

Ok if you do that everyday what % profit of your business is being lost. Yes our blokes all work really hard and on a friday we do go for a beer but im paying for an 8 hour day and in an hour they can do 3-4 cube sorry but times are hard for all!

But surely if the guys are back to the yard early that means they've got done what you had booked in for the day to get the full day's profit? Surely that's having your cake and eating it?

That's my take on it Chris.

We used to crack on for one bloke and due to graft and efficiency had a one day job nailed by 2, only to be 'rewarded' with 3 hours logging.

Not odd times, but every time.

We ended up hanging every job out till about 4.15.

Sounds harsh, but we never got any extra for 8pm finishes in the summer when he'd cocked his pricing up either.

I much preferred a half day job followed by an afternoons logging.

Think there's a nice middle ground which works well for everyone - there's always going to be odd long days but there's always a few days of job and knock.

We had a good one this week - nailed a 2 day job by dinnertime on the second day, got bought Fish and Chips and we had the whole lot logged up and in the barn and still got away early.

Anyone been told firewood too dry? Also, gave customer load of birch instead of softwood because we ran out and they complained (was sold at softwood price). Anyone else had this odd complaints?:confused1:

YEARS ago... customers thought Silver birch was 2nd grade or = to Softwood.

Nowadays its just 'hardwood'( it is excellent firewood, fast growing and easy to process).

Last year a customer bought and paid for 3m mixed logs, and only wanted the softwood as it looked 'neater' in his logstore (very posh house).

He politely asked me to take the hardwood away, and keep the money (£110)!

There was nothing wrong with it expept not as even shaped as the softwood.
