Today - Helicopter extracting Large Trees

Spent day in Kielder watching helicopter lifting 40-50 foot Sitka destined for Christmas trees in shopping centres etc in UK.

Averaged 1 tree every 3 minutes from sites to roadside. All trees on were already on ground and slings on for fast lifting etc.

Was surreal, and VERY exciting seeing a giant Christmas tree on its side flying through the air! never been done in Uk before, at least not in Kielder.

I worked on a site near Keswick that were extracting typical size xmas trees by helicopter in nets in 1995.

These were 40-50 foot, heaviest today just over 2 tonnes!
