Hello,

Just after some advice. I'm an ex tree surgoen that now drives a HGV tues - fri, its easy going and fancy doing a bit of grounds work on the monday if I can find a company that will have me.

Is it a legal obligation of mine to inform my current employer? Will they find out from the extra tax I will be paying?

Thanks.

What you do in your free time is your business.....unless it affects our weekly rest period

I'm not sure this is right.

You should declare any work that you are doing outside your main employer if you are PAYE. Mrs egg does a bit for the parish council (unpaid), she still as to tell her employer what hours she does outside of the day job.

I'm not sure if this is the "law" or company policy.

I seem to remember reading up on it When Mrs egg told me that her company wanted to know if anyone was doing a second job and i think you should tell your main employer if you have a second job, paid or unpaid.

But i stand to be corrected.

Its not law but her primary employer may have that stipulated as a condition of employment. The main employment in this case is as a LGV driver. The drivers hours regulations require rest periods between shifts.

Thanks for replies. I think I will go with the 'what if I...' approach and gauge their reaction, wouldn't want to jeopardise anything.

It will all be under 48 hours, I can just do a manual entry on a chart and get work to scan it.
