Screw splitter usage - a couple of questions

Thought I'd have a quick go at the splitter using my meager tools.

Pointed my B&D heat gun at the tip for a couple of mins then put some molegrips on the tip and stood on them.....

Happy days!! (I think I may have got a bit lucky there)

If it's not then I expect it'll be 5/8 BSF and that is very close to the metric M16 LH thread the chap in Sevenoaks with the nice secretary will sell you.

 

You will have to run a 5/8 LH tap down the cone, I have a mate with one if you're ever local to NW Surrey.

Well just to round this topic off, after finally getting the correct tap from China I was able to retap the thread on the cone so I could fit a new tip from Hycrack.

Fired it up on Saturday and had a bit of a play. I took it slow and I'm happy to say that I've still got all my fingers and thumbs

All I need to do is adapt it now so it will fit on the tractors 3ph so I can raise it up because it's a bit too low at the moment.

All in all I'm happy withe my £140 purchase!

Emergency cutoff - it's the red line handing down - connected to the pto lever.

Gloves - I thought they could get caught up without you knowing? Happy to wear them if it's safer.

Long sleeves - I'll pull them up

Glad to see you have got it up and working

 

I think it is safest to not where gloves as then there is no fabric to get caught up in things. I do where old leather chainsaw gloves sometimes when hands are knackered though.

We have a hycrack. They are ok, but slow slow slow. Reckon on a good day you could split maybe 5-6 cube. You can't let your guard down for one second otherwise BANG, over she flips and your hand is history!!
