i was under the impression that equipment didnt need testing till its 6 months old. i was shocked to hear of a college not too far from me charging students to get their brand new kit lolered before they could use it.

 

now thats very very nouhgty in deed :mad1: have we a name & shame policy ?:mad1:

You are kidding Steve?!

 

I’ve got some new ropes hanging in the stores, told the inspector about them and he confirmed they didn’t need testing. Common sense prevails!

That’s very naughty.

 

If a piece of kit were new, as a part of a larger inspection I would include it because it gets it into the audit trail.

 

Whilst trying my best not to appear pedantic can I point out that LOLER is inspection and not testing.

If the brand new kit comes with a certificate of conformity then it doesn't need to be subject to thorough examination until six months of use. In the absence of evidence of conformity it has to be examined by a loler inspector prior to use.

Well then, that would be the fault of the equipment supplier, shame the students had to foot the bill.

 

So you have to be qualified to inspect brand new kit? Sheesh!

when i started climbing at college and took my own harness in, they said similar, that it'd need to be on loler, but they added it onto there records and it just goes through with all their stuff......free of charge!!!!!
