Eye protection a must!

Hi guys just thought I would share my ordeal as a reminder to everyone to make sure you wearing correct eye equipment and take care of them, yesterday I was dismantling ash tree and yanked on a hanger which the tips poked my eye and snapped off leaving all sorts of shrapnel wood moss etc in my eye, I washed my out out to no relief so I decided to sleep on it! 1.30 am I woke up in agony and got myself to the hospital, turns out iv badly scratched my eye and infection has set In, they sent me home with drugs and called me back in the morning to see a eye specialist, the lady took another look and noticed I had a flap of eye tissue hanging on from the cut she removed it but had to remove more tissue than ideally needed so I now have a massive contact lens protecting my eye and a nasty cut. I have to go back tomorrow for a check up! It's been a extremely painful ordeal but a lesson learned treat yourself to some good eye protection!.

Albere, thanks for sharing your, very painful, experience. I too have previoulsy had a similar expereince and it is bl**dy awful the pain is acute and you just can't escape it...thankfully tho no long term damage and I'm sure/hope you'll be the same.

 

Forgive the seeming pun here, but with the benefit of hind-sight, safety glassess (costing from a tenner upwards, and yes £50-60 for a really decent, fashionable, pair) are a very worthwhile purchase but getting in the habit of wearing them is the hard part...doubtless though your expereince will help.

Thanks Paul, luckily I still have my vision just extremely blurred at the minute but that's because of the infection. I got myself a pair of safety eyes today and they won't be coming off! If it weren't for the large box off anaesthetic eye drops I would have pulled my eye out by now and punched a few holes in the wall haha. Ni is worth every penny after the last 2 days iv had.

all this year I have used the grey and blue "itek" glasses sold by clarkes forest, can't recommend them enough, for about £7 you get decent protection and the grey ones offer sun glare protection. Last week a wood chip shot back out the chipper hopper and hit me straight in the eye, was a big chunk, but those glasses stopped it and didn't scratch either, seriously man, look into them,

Safe Eyes Goggles | Clark Forest : Eye Protection

 

These are the ones I use mate, I knew someone would have them. No fogging, no sponge to soak up tree gunk or sweat. The mesh is much finer than a visor so really keep your eyes clean and can take a bashing too. My last pair survived nearly two years before retirement. You can mount them direct to a petzl helmet using the torch holder bits too, mine are always up there ready to pull down
