I bought one of these from Machine Mart for stripping the boards off the pallets but it only works if the base rails are less than a few inches wide.

I use a circular saw and cut across all the planks next to the ends which leaves kindling length planks ready for the hatchet. . This leaves a load of planks and usually 3 lengths with the blocks in. I've got a 300mm chop saw which will chop the ends up into blocks and they go straight in the stove if they are HT pallets and not chipboard.

Think I'll give the pallet idea a miss for now as I have more than enough arb waste to keep me going and cant be bothered to hunt around for pallets to tear apart.

So anyone got any other tips other than a bungee?

what species splits easiest in what size ?
