I'm with Ed too.

But then I don't have a firewood business and own my own coppice and produce my own firewood.

As for Ash die back, all of the Ash on my land are now dead.

It's coming your way whether you like it or not and there's nothing you can do about it.

That's the whole point.. WE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING

:( today I was admiring some twenty foot ash that I've previously planted. I hope you're wrong about ash dieback.

one of the reasons people like log fires is that it's a "green" energy. if they knew it was getting trucked in 1500 miles from East Europe they might be less keen to buy them.

don't forget a lot of it is intentionally spread about like the dutch elm follow it back you will find someone getting a good turn out of it. I would be interested whether the ash is given a chance to recover or if it's removed as soon as the disease is found as my dad had a small ash in the garden looked like it was dying off but then recovered.

Really? They only ever seem interested in the price to me, although perhaps people in different areas of the country can afford such unilateral principles.

I was at a FC meeting a few weeks ago, they advise that the Ash disease is now all over the country and is unstoppable.

Going to be a hell of a lot of large diameter trunks to deal with sooner of later, we must have at least 200 mature Ash trees some of which are showing signs of infection.

If people wanted the cheapest method of heating their house would they not just put the gas central heating on?

imo many log consumers would rather buy logs produced locally than logs trucked in 1500 miles... I get our logs from a charity that supports disadvantaged people 3 miles from my house.

No mains gas round here, plenty of houses that rely solely on wood for heating, hot water & cooking though.

I suspect most people around here would disapprove of logs being imported for firewood & would be quite vocal about it if they new it was going on but the majority would still buy them anyway if that was the cheapest option for them although I do not know of any local log merchants who find it necessary to import timber.
