Did I miss something?

What happened to require surgery?

Peds took a fall couple of days ago, broken femur and T12 vertebrae.

Oops and Ouch in equal measures.

You got that right! Definitely a huge portion of oops, it's hugely embarrassing. Unclipped my line for a split second to get around a lateral, as I've done a few times before and gotten away with it... but absolutely not a mistake I'll ever make again.

I have been spectacularly humbled, and no matter what the final outcome - early days yet, obviously - it's a miracle it isn't worse already.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, you are all appreciated.

I'm an amateur compared to you guys - one man band effort, but 2 things

1 looking at before and after, its not being pruned so much as trimmed (without being there I doubt a chainsaw went near it) (Edit -ok a bit for the top I can see maybe 2 inch stems cut)

2 the cost, ok the hire would have been a bit, but surely max 2 men for 2 days and perhaps 2 ton of cuttings, or chip to dump

I spend 3 to four days on my own hedge cutting in the biggest gardens I do for a yearly - I'd be surprised if I couldn't have done that in four days, including clearing away.

It's not exciting work, more of a slog, but that hedge only had a yearly trim by the look of it, cant see why felling needed considering.

If you gave me a ro ro bin to rake up into , a platform and £950.35 I'd do it every year as a subby

interested to hear how many man days it took and if the sides were mainly hedge cutter - if not propietary info!

Took 3 days to trim the full site in the first round, we eventually agreed to reduce it all so round two took 4 days to reduce, hard to get an idea of scale but the top came down by about 6-7 ft, toppy and pole saw from the basket mostly.

he cleared up all the mess as has lads and tractor trailer. only way we could make it economically viable.

this video gives a better idea of the top.

Started a job I may regret. Quoted it as two days labour to manually smash out the roots and replant with a nice row of privet.

As I dont have a tipper, the waste will stay a few days until I have all the roots and waste out so it can be taken in one load. Thats the reason I have cut it into a smallish rash pile.

thanks for the reply - bigger than anything I've tackled in terms of sheer length

It looks geometric and neat, they must be pleased with it.

It did occur to me a decent size tractor and flail could trim most of the sides, not as nice a finish

Well done, looks great, but **************** that.

When I used to do a lot of hedges in the UK we measured them…. 1 man for a day in a conny hedge is known as 1 misery.

So all in all, how many misery’s did it take?

Fair play Rob.

I’m still having nightmares about it and I wasn’t even there!
