As Ed said, Peugeot make a version that is nowhere near as costly - either to buy or maintain. Search for Peugeot P4. There's quite a few around at good prices.

I wouldnt go that far mate!! and why are the cabs so cramped up!! i hardly fit in them!

Jeep makes one like that called a cj7. I like the four doors and longer wheel base of those landrovers.

At one point, I was thinking of getting one of these trailers You can get trailer mounted powerpacks, but hydraulics on the landrover would be better. OK, not as versatile in the woods with a landrover compared to a tractor, but as soon as you're out and onto the road, you can be straight up to 50 mph.

 

Not so viable now when you consider the cost of it plus fuel at over £1/l

 

I know a chap (Alan Waters/ Wildwood Coppice) who has one of the high speed crane and trailer units. He tows it behind a Landy with a Ferrari bendy tractor loaded on the trailer. He can run to sites, clear up coppice and big cordwood with the tractor which is cheaper to run, tougher and more agile than the Landy. In the evenings if he's not happy with security ion site he can run the rig home and lock it up.

It's great I wouldn't want to crunch around woodland brash and stumps with my road vehicle if I could help it.....

I may have missed something, but he can't take the rig and timber home though,can he?
