I once read that if we ate more insects it would solve the worlds protein shortage, I don't buy into the we haven't got enough land, if you've ever had an allotment you'll know that 10 rod of land will produce all the veg, poultry, and spuds to feed a family of 4 for a year..

Just for you Dean on such a happy topic.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRAU11JXcvU&feature=fvst]Eve of Destruction --- Barry McGuire - YouTube[/ame]

To be honest, yeah the information is there to say we are in trouble but it's like the news on the whole - bad news sells. What about the advances in technology out there that benefit mankind and reduce the likelihood of shortages of food ? New Scientist a couple of issues back covered that with GM Foods in particular and the issue after also looked at the new wave of Cancer treatments which are increasing the survival rate. Or go one step further and the idea of making new planets inhabitable using microbes ?

As Andy and Stephen said.. lifes for living, rather be happy and well informed from both sides and my humble view is the future for humanity is looking pretty good, far from bleak and apocalyptic - sorry if that buggers up the Doomsayers paradigms :laugh1:

Why is all the hate directed towards the feckless poor but not one mention of the rich & corporations (so called 1%) that are paying near zero taxes due to having clever accountants & fleecing the whole country. The size of their theft dwarfs any petty amount lost to benifit cheats etc.

Extreme right wing views? :confused1:

Also im suprised no ones even mentioned peak oil yet? :001_smile:

You don't have to have a war or bird flu etc to causse a mass die off in a world with finite resources & expotential poplutation growth when the whole worlds s agricultural production base relies on cheap fossil fuel energy resources, that are running out.
