ok i need help from you friendly folks again,

 

After some thinking and what not, i have desided not to get a land rover just now. I have a bigger and better plan but thats later in life. Anyway i need help,

 

Im looking at getting either a mazda b2500, l200 or a hilux (newer one) which ever i get im looking for a crew cab so i can keep my stuff in the back. I kind of think i know they are all pretty much the same but have different badges on the front and back of them.

 

The problem im having is i cant choose which 1 to go for. So im looking for your opinions on which i should go for.

if i remember the hilux towing weight isnt very good think it was 2250 kg

where as the L200 is 2800kg

but then some of the L200 service interval was short.

have you looked at the early navara thats my daily driver 130000 miles ive driven it from newonly had a clutch go at 110000.

ahhhhhhhhhhh i really want to but theres this grown up bit in my mind saying dont do it. my plan is to get one once ive settled in a job and housing so i can rebuild it to how i want it 2 be . so just now its something sencible please

If i were you, i would leave my options open and look at whats on the market. If you set your ideas on one type then you limit your choice of whats available at the time.

 

Basically you want a 4x4 double cab of a certain age to do a certain job.

 

Go and look at whats available, drive them and take each one on its own merits not its make.

 

If you tie yourself to getting only a hi lux then there maybe only 3 or 4 for sale and they all might all be dogs but if you look at 3 l200 4 navaras 3 rangers 2 mazda and 4 hi - lux the chance of one or two being good are much higher.

 

Don't buy anything from a tree surgeon though, chances are its been worked harder than most.

 

Whach out for Landys too, at that price there all dogs.

 

Just through my experience in 4x4 buying, it's a mine feild though so good luck.

Don't stick great big wheels on it! Ups insurance as it's a mod, worsens mpg, tyres cost twice as much, produce more noise, wears out hubs and bearings, reduces resale value, drains power, worsens steering, the list goes on and on.

 

I had a Hilux which was a good vehicle for sure. My 2004 Mitsubishi L200 4work on the other hand is even better IMO since it has a sweeter engine, mpg similar, better driving position. The L200 double cab load bed is 6" longer than the Hilux which has made the difference many times - fence posts for example...
