so how hard was it to get a pull rope on the top of those lumps before felling them out? Surely thats safer than relying simply on wedges to push them off. Also, why not use a bigger saw up there? My medium fell is crap on the ground and i bet its no easier 80 feet up on spikes! Still, respect to that ballsy climber.

Wedges are fine....besides, the lean was favorable, pretty much.

As far as using a big saw....I might have had a 660 up there.....36" bar, but any bigger is really a pain to maneuver, especially at 120 feet up. But since I runported saw, a 372 or Dolmar 7900 w/32" would be my first choice. That's about what Gord was using, tho prolly stockers....

A sweet vid, mind you there is also a little lesson in there as well. Look at the big limb he cranks out first and how it droops around the trunk. If that snags on his climbing line as it comes down he is going to seriously know about it. As you see the limb hit the deck you can see his climbing line has been pulled about a bit. A little more preperation would avoid that. Must have been a cracking job though, the kind of one where you look at it for the first time and say "how the hell....."

i was wondering why he had an 020 on when he started, then i saw him digging into that big limb, good old ripy ripy. i bet he was crapping himself. he should of left the key ring at home and humfed up a 46. but anyone who can dink down those monster chunks get my respect anyday. bet that lad enjoys a good pollard! lol
