Sorry to hear that, lets hope he can get over it.

However, leaning Crack Willows are not for practicing on. Something went badly wrong from the moment that guy was allowed to make those cuts without proper intruction. There's a hell of a alot more to felling leaning trees than to simply keep cutting. I seem to recall there being a video here from Steve on felling a leaning ash, but Christ this was a 'Crack' willow!

Poor guy, I cant believe this was allowed to happen! I would like to send this fella a get well card if thats ok, can you post or pm me an address please.

thats the thing matey, he rushed and didnt wait, he has his tickets and this was about the only leaning tree there, i know it was a crack willow but every one has to do one at some time or another!!!! it all could of possibly been avoided if he didnt just stand there and watch it split, then barber chair and drop on him, but i do think if he had kept cutting or droped and ran this could of been avoided, i wasnt there personally but arrived 30 mins later, oh and the ambulance came from syston which is 20 miles away rather than oakham where we was!!! and there is a bigish ambulance station in oakham!!!!!!

he goes in for his op tomorrow for plates and pins!!!! i bet he is shitting him self!!!

Actually, the pain meds he's on will probably constipate him. I didn't poop for a week after my accident.

I feel bad for the guy. A crushing injury is an amazingly torturous event that takes weeks to subside from the initial excruciating pain that exists. I didn't sleep for a week, never knew humans could do that.

Weird $hit is still going on down there even as I type...

Barberchairs can happen quick too, so unless someone just saw him standing there it may not have been like that. But having the experience to judge whether the tree needed to be bored and triggered rather than just backcut would to me seem to be the real mistake made.

Again best wishes to your friend Often I consider myself lucky to have survived to this point in my life with no major injuries.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry to hear of your mates accident. How big was this tree at DBH?Was the tree leaning heavy towards the intended direction of fall?If so how did he end up underneeth it?Could you please add a bit more info on the accident, like tree diameter, leaning direction, intended felling direction, chainsaw bar length, saw type and size, victims age and experiance.I'm asisting on a Felling course in March and am in the process of writing lesson's on "Bore and release" cuts, this might be a usfull lesson to teach the class.

I wish your mate a speedy recovery

the tree had a 10% lean in the direction of fall, i think he was using a stihl260 with a 15''bar the tree was about 50ft tall and around a 12'' at the felling point, im not 100% on how it dropped on him but as it split it pivioted about 15'' up the tree and dropped off the side he was standing, the guy is 27 and had about 5 months experience with a saw, so thats why we always had someone standing with him for cuts....

after he was carted away i should of maby got a few photosa of how it split and landed but didnt think as we was more interested in getting him out and a clear path for the ladys in green....

another thing that bugs me is why they sent 2 oldish ladies to a man in a shelter belt, lets just say it was a good job a few blokes where there to lift him out on the spine board!!!!!
