2 liners into 1 chimney

To all you stove fitters out their. a customer of mine wants to fit a woodburner to a fire place in her old cottage but the stove company say that because next door shares the same chimney they cannot as hetas will not allow 2 liners to share the same chimney. I spoke with hetas, they could not give a reason for this rule, except to say as the liner can get up to 700 degrees it could burn thro and burn thro next doors liner, i did point out that the melting point of aluminium was 3000 degrees. can any one tell me the reason for this.

No slate roof. Long time ago it was 1 house now 2 small cottages.

Its more to do with airflow. Its a big no no according to regs.

 

In practical terms, only way to know is to try it, then deal with the concequencies.

Can't see the problem myself, I would have thought 2 flues better than one, a hot flue is a clean flue!!

 

Prob just made up regs so you have to have an expensive twin wall flue fitted!!

if it was a single house dont they have 1 chimney for all the fires so if you have 2 fires in the house you cant put 2 flues in ?

surely theres already 2 flues just a joint chimney stack ???

As the lady was having a liner fitted to her new wood burner then next door was going to have one fitted as well as his woodburner just feeds into the chimney.

I sure it would be 2 flues going into one pot at the stack ?

The melting point of aluminium is only 660 c
