It struck me today while I was at work. In a break while refuelling, I could hear a saw in the distance, and it got me thinking that I was about a mile from small town where I know a couple of lads have been looking for work.

Why do people not use their brains and approach us on site, never know we might be glad of a hand, and keeness is appreciated.

It puts a face to the name on the circulated CV, or the anonymous voice at the end of the phone, so if you really want to work, get off your butts and meet people.

another way of doing it is to approach the bloke doing the work and ask if there are any positions on the go or if he needs an extra pair of hands at any point, leaving contact number etc ands say you'll post him a copy of cv

When ever i hear a saw going, i search it out and speak to the people.

Last time I went out to investigate saw noise near my house, it turned out to be a UU team on a way leave and I ended up making tea and toast for 6.
