Leylandi stumps

I am doing a little conny bashing this weekend. There is no necessity to remove the stumps immediately. I plan on cutting them down to ground level for the time being. Obviously these will decay over time (all stumps 10-12" diameter). Our there any accelerates to aid the decay process that can be purchased on the domestic market and our best suited to leylandi?

leave the stumps high and lever then out with a bit of elbow grease if they are small.

Just drill some holes with the top of the chainsaw. Let the water do the rest. I have had many clients tell me of this mysterious substance that rots stumps quickly, none of them has ever put a name to it or found it in their shed. If anyone knows, do tell.

root out is supposed to be good, but you have to cover said stumps with plastic!

dig them out with a mini digger!

There is a French way of stump removal which involves drilling holes then pouring 'Lait Ribot' a kind of vile yoghurt drunk by Bretons.

It tastes like vomit from the last lepper in hell and has no effect at all on the decay rate but it is promoted as an 'ecologic' method of stump removal.

cut stumps level with ground, use root out powder, highly toxic, use gloves, the powtder is only effective as soon as the tree is cut as the rising sap dissolves the crystals of the root out, so it has to be done fairly quickly, then cover with a plastic bag and secure with a tie so that animals and birds and rain cannot get to the root out, leave and let the chemical start working, will still take a few months to work

Cover the stumps in plastic or roofing felt, it will trap moisture and also allow the wee beasties to do their bit.

never heard of root out. Sounds like the ticket though, thanks logbaron.

trouble is alot of chemicals were withdrawn a few years ago, you can still get Stump killers but may be sold through arb suppliers as as with all these chemicals there are more controls over them now than ever, or try a large garden supplies/centre
