Hell of a statement!!

In 14 years climbing I've not come across an "unclimbable" tree.

Why had it not blown down in the last gale??:confused1:

Undertand what you mean ..if the wind doesn't blow it over what dif will your weight make.

But there was a tree size branch growing out of the side..by removing that..i would've been enough to shock the tree and possible split it.

Possibility is enough

If you remove the limb in small sections you will not shock the tree.

Edit; Like Peter posted while I was typing.

Could you have strapped the split stem up and removed the big limb in small sections so as to avoid shock loading?

Yeah possibly..but i had driven 1 hr to get there...and the bloke didn't tell me over the phone...or eve point out faults of tree on site.

Too much risk..taking the limb of the back then felling it is best option

the tree and large crown was leaning other direction from the limb..it wasn't the shock loading...it was removing that amount of weight from the rear of tree...just asking for it to fall over.

When the wind blows against a tree the weight of the limbs on the windward side of the tree are added too the force pushing the tree, so if it stood up to the last wind I'd have been happy too crack on.
