If its raining before we leave depending on the type of work I will rebook, my prices just don't work with rain. I expect the rain slows a job down by at least 25%, that's going to eat into profit on already tight margins.

Ppe and kit get soaked and ropes are crap to climb on for days sometimes don't have time to dry it out, in this cold weather being wet can make you ill.

But the biggest factor, I just don't need the money that bad, had a few slips on wet trees and your only one hit away from the end of a career.

Stay safe dont let your boss's force you to do work your not comfortable with, if you injure yourself that's it for you, I never ask my guys to do something I won't do or that could increase the risk of injury.

But the views you get on snowy days are superb

If I can do something else instead of getting all my kit soaked then I will. If it starts raining when I am already at work in a tree then I stay till its done. The thing about rain is it depresses you into not wanting to get out the car/van, a lot like right now! Sitting in my car watching the rain lashing off the windscreen and eating my sandwich contemplating getting wet, going home and make do with half days wage or suicide! Hmmmm choices choices... Oh look it's now turned to sleet haha happy days. The half days wage is looking like the best option for the moment. Time for a team meeting, well me and the other guy thinking the same thoughts in the van in front of me.

Did a reduction and crown raise on a large sycamore in the coldest harshest rain ive seen for a long time. Wasnt raining when i went up but was quarter the way into the job when it hit. I decided to carry on and finish but i was freezing cold, wet to the bone and shivering uncontrollably. In hind site i should of stopped it was getting slippy and dangerous. If it was bad to start with i wouldnt have bothered even turning up.

If its raining hard before i leave home and im climbing i tend to reschedule, if it rains mid climb i just get on with it. I do 50/50 tree work and fencing and id sooner be doing ground tree work in heavy rain over fencing or climbing.

Plus living on the hat of dartmoor tends to be a case of living with your head in the clouds- quite literally- so rain can't be avoided.

Sometimes when it rains mid job and i get totally soaked through i almost get motivated by it and find im quite enjoying myself!
