As if life wasn't dangerous enough

I very nearly bought a hanglider but decided they were far too easy to kill yourself with and besides, me zipping around the skies of huddersfield in an out of control fashion didn't bear thinking about.

Uncanny how it allways comes back to Only Fools and Horse with you Eh dean. :001_tongue:

I was out on the bike one day and stopped up on the moors between Huddersfield and Oldham and there were some taking off from a hillside there.

It looked fun and a right adrenalin buzz.

I remember a right draught blowing though, they were taking off into the wind and then coming back round and landing into the wind. I remember thinking at the time that it must be on the edge of the scale of flyability.

Dean, hangliding is safer than paragliding.

I would have thought the other way round ?

Technically, you should be able to just let go of everything with a paraglider and you will come down safely, maybe injured with a fast hard landing but it would be a slowed decent.

Cant say you could do that with a Hangglider ?

...and the hanglider will punish mistakes a lot more severly ?

My wife got me a sky dive as a birthday present a few years back, it was ace! I would recommend it to any one!.

You get 3 thrills in one, the plane ride in a rattly old single prop taking off from a bumpy field, the free fall which is awesome and then hanging from the canopy and slowly drifting down enjoying the view and the peace.

My boys used to watch the video and cry, they were sure I wasn't gonna make it, I think they may cry now, because I did. Why do Kidd's HAVE to grow up???

I was told/have heard that the Armed Forces are no longer prepared to insure your life/medical requirements after a bungy jump ( assuming you are signed up naturally ) ...based I understand it , on the fact that your spine may well be , what..." modified" I suppose, post the jump...!!

Reading between the lines then, it can be assumed to be a violent and probably not so great way to treat yourself if you plan on climbing in the long run!?<><><><
