ranger supercab /navara king cab advice

Hi all

Been operating for a long time with van and trailer for work but now need to change vehicle soon as I'll have to do a school run with 2 kids a couple of days a week.

After much deliberation I reckon the vehicle that'll suit me best will be a 4x4 pick up with the 2 small back seats for use now and again. I like this option as the bed of the pick up is a bit bigger than the genuine crew cab versions and should still have enough room for climbing kit/saws in the rear seat area. I plan to either go with a pro tipper or loadhandler with high sides to handle woodchip.

My budget is around 4K so I'm probably looking at 03/04/05 models depending on mileage and condition.

Are there any models/versions of the ranger/navara that are to be avoided or to be recommended for my modest budget? Or any common faults with either?

I've talked to a few ranger owners and it seems that servicing and the cost of parts is reasonable. I don't know much about navaras - would they be an expensive vehicle for parts/servicing? Any pointers from anyone who has had experience of these vehicle would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Late model d22 navaras had well documented engine problems, a few minutes on google should clue you up.

For the money you are talking I would go ranger.

Are you sure you can get child seats in the back of a supercab? I had to go for a double cab as there just isnt that much room in the supercab. Booster seat might be ok though.

At the risk of this turning into a parent toddler forum:001_tongue: I have a 07 ranger king cab, Ive found it brilliant for work and child transport, the maxi cosy infant seat takes quite a bit of space to the point where you need to slide the passenger seat quite far forward, but booster and ordinary child seat fits fine.
