First time on here, so be kind to me if I don't do it right please!

Can anyone help to ID this specimen tree growing in a garden in mid-Devon? Approx 50' tall, delicate kind of canopy. Looks a bit like an ash only lighter. Owner claims no flowers or fruit of any sort for last 30 yrs at least. Can it be some kind of sterile clone of something? Picked leaves have a faintly sweet scent. There should be a scan of a photo and a scan of some foliage attached.

Suggestions have ranged from some kind of hickory to acacia.....

Looks like ash to me, twigs and buds and compound leaves look right. Picture of the whole tree is not good so can't comment much further.

It could be a different type of ash to your common ash, the crown looks a bit yellow!

Have you got a pic of the bark and what size are the leaves and leaflets, also as asked, can you see any black terminal buds, I can't tell from those images

I'm going to agree with kev here, think herbs got it on the button:thumbup:

Sophora japonica or as it it's now called Styphnolobium japonicum - Pagoda tree, doesn't bear any flowers till it's any where between 30-50 years old and fruits are very rare in the UK.

The leaves on these images look like the pagoda tree leaves. I would need more images (close up of bark, buds, underside of leaf and leaflets and size of leaflets) to be 100% sure
