Your NPTC assessor cannot refresh you, only a registered instructor...unless you have a re-assessment, and re reg costs and i doubt you want that.

have a look at the leaflet that says its a recomendation on page 3. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf

Its a recomendation, so its up to you. sure your insurance company will take your money even if your tickets are out of date but they dont shell out so easy if you have an accident. your choice.

one last thing, just be aware any of you out there that have the old units, some of them eg like the felling, are not up to date as you may not hold relevant parts such as hung up trees, or technical cuts.

Things change, updates aren't a bad thing.

if your tickets are out of date

.

:confused1:They have NO time period on them, so HOW can they be OUT OF DATE??????????????:confused1:

Sure new units have been brought in, but there is a new driving test since I took mine, are you saying my driving license is OUT OF DATE??????:confused1:

I really wish people would deal in FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lets look at the simple logistics

how many chainsaw operators on here 1500 - 2000

take most who will have 30 31 38 39

may have cs 32, woodchipper, stump grinder, pa1 & 6,mewp ua1 etc

so lets take 1500 with an average of 6 COCs = 9000 retests / 3 yrs = 3000 re trains per annum

just on here that equals 58 re trains per week every week no holidays or breaks

thats just an ave guess of members on here alone, without taking into consideration the need to train Fe or HE students or new workers

2000 *8 Cocs / 3 year cycle on 5 day week without B/hols breaks = 102 re trains pw, week in week out.

then factor the cost implication of down time & training costs

Then factor in that those companys who comply & meet those implication still have to compete in the open market those shadier companies who dont comply with where we are know & dont seem to get caught or impuned !

We as an industry do need to develop. & I openly applaude that

however A Coc is just that. Competance

It is not reflective of industry experience, knowledge, commercial skill or speed
