Chainsaw/climbing refreshers and insurance?

I've been told that my insurance may not stand up if my chainsaw ticket isn't refreshed i.e. upto date. The last one was 98 actually the day I passed, so I know that HSE advise 5 years for regular users and 3 years for occasional users, and apparently 5 years is only for professional tree fellers in forestry? I'm not really sure about this.

Anyway the insurance company have copies of my certs and gave me the insurance, this is a bit confusing as surely that would suggest everything is fine. But trusting insurance companies is hard to do.

I think I will take the refresher asap.

What do you reckon?

I recently contacted my nearest NPTC assessor about this who in turn contacted NPTC. Their conclusion was that the chainsaw refresher was neccessary for the occasional user not constant. Either way, no-one seems to offer the refresher but the chap offered to get back to me if more people made the enquiry and a course could be formulated!

Thats the reaction i was expecting Skyhuck, lol!

My local friendly NPTC trainer / assessor told me a member of staff would need a refresher course for insurance. God loves a trier :sneaky2: A lot of money to be made if you convince everyone.

I am talking about one man and not the every day good NPTC trainer / assessors that roam the woodlands of the UK.

the assessor would not be able to do refresher training

that would be an instructor

read your afag guides and best practice does apply

ask any EA employee they have to do updates for every cert every 3 years

even if they have just done say cs 32 they then may have to do 30 and 31 again if there 3 years are up
