Tree Care in Glasgow area - help and advice required

I have family in the Paisley area of Scotland from where I have just returned having spent Xmas there.

 

They and their neighbours are in need of fairly prompt tree maintenance, given that the trees at the top of steep >100' gardens are becoming unsafe (many are beginning to fall) and that leaf drop is horrendous as is light reduction. I would personally recommend a mixture of removal and pollarding although some of the trees in question don't favour mutilation...

 

Being based in Devon I am unlikely to pitch for the job (!); also I am concerned about a number of Scottish factors I am not familiar with - possibly rumours but that planning permission is required for felling / pollarding / crown reduction / thinning - ???!!! Really?!

 

As my inlaws concerned are needing a foolproof service (there is a plentiful supply of "Jack of all Trades, Master of None" in the area to be avoided) I am trying to find them a contractor to at least give them a (or the three or more houses in a row a collective one) quote so that I can either tell them to go for it or that the neighbours need to save hard before leaves return.

 

I attach some photos, but anyone interested should reply and we'll parlez-vous from there since I will be dealing with the whole process.

Re 'planning permission' = Conservation Areas/TPO's/Forestry Comm Felling Licences and BS 5837. Same as England and Wales, it all depends on the area where the trees are growing and which LA covers the area, how many trees are being removed etc. 'planning permission' will just be a catch all term for the homeowners to use.

Great stuff, finally a ball rolling. Not done a PM before so will work out how to in a mo. Aware of TPOs etc and some of the trees immediately outside the property boundary are plastered with tabs as per pic attached. For my details see http://www.grassandgrounds.co.uk.

Thanks for the opportunity Timbercutter, but unfortunately stowed out with tendered work right to end of March in and around Glasgow, as for the Tree tag there isnt a Tagged tree n glasgae that TC doesnt know about.
