I was phoned up on Monday this week and asked if could come and quote for some work. Two Leylandii 20ft+ to be remove from a back garden. No problem i said i'll pop round and have alook this afternoon if your available. The lady (who sounded something akin to Vicky Pollard) explained that she would be out and asked if i could come on Friday at 15.00hrs. No problem madem i'll put that in my diary and shall look forward to seeing you on Friday at 15.00hrs.

Yesterday comes and i arrive at the address 5min early and knocked on the door......No answer so i had a quick look up the side of the house to find conifer brash everywhere heaped up about 8ft high. Continued into back garden to find two 9ft stumps that looked like they'd been attacked by a tribe of angry ring tailed lemur's armed with junior hacksaws!!! At first i was a bit miffed but then i was quite amused at the thought of how long it's going to take them to cut it all up and fill the their green bin and all their neighbours!!!

The laugh we got from it made up for not getting the job!! But i hope they dont ring me and ask if i'll come and chip it for them.

Or they could get a price to chip it all and save themselves a few quid. Just because she sounds like Vicki Pollard does not mean she's thick.

I always charge more to chip cut stuff than I would if it had still been standing.

Ohh i wont be chipping it trust me!! However the area got leaflet dropped mid week with plain leaflets with treecare as the heading and only mobile number on it followed by several customers reporting having a knock at the door only to find a well dressed chap with irish twang informing them that they will be doing some tree work down the street next week. The customer that informed me has an elm in the front garden which is covered by tpo and is 100% dispsite needing thinning. I know this because i met with the tpo officer on Tues and have submited the app following. The door knocker told the customer it had dutch elms and needed removing !!!??? of course he could do it at a reasonable rate already being in the area. It's common place round here ***** Jo starting a job drawing for it then leave all the brash on the drive!! I cleared up 4 sycy's and removed the stumps for a customer a couple of months back after being stung in the same way! best part was i got three other jobs of the back of that one!!

we had one on friday afternoon

local engineering firm rang us a couple of months ago to remove a line of 40' connys at the side of their factory, about 30 of em.

gave him the price, which was the cheapest of the three he'd had (his words) but he said it was too expensive.

got a call last week, he'd got a mate in to cut 6 of the connys, but could i come and give him a price for chipping it up.

when i got there, half of his yard was covered in conny

he thought there was about two skip loads, and the skip firm wanted £150 per skip !!!!!!

i said for £300 i'd chip and take away....still blustered that we were too expensive, but as i was walking away, he told me to come and do it.

we went on friday afternoon, 2 1/2 hrs, and three truck loads of chip later the jobs done and cleared up.

as he was paying me he said that his mate was coming to clear another 6 next week, and could i come and chip up when he'd done.

at this rate the jobs gonna cost him nearly as much as my original quote !!!!!!

Sometimes it is better for the customer to make your life easier even if it cost them more at the end of the job instead of the beginning:sneaky2:

You can think to yourself see I told you so and really feel good about it.
