I had a pole cat called Dredd and a ferret called frodo when I was a kid. Both were taken by a gang of rats. I went on a rampage with a 4 10. Stll hate rats, even pet ones. I remember cooking up lites in the kitchen for them, what a stink!

Had a polecat ferret when i was a kid, used to take her purse-netting along the warrens at the back of my Dads. Got into ferreting when an older lad brought his big ferret along one day. These days they seem to be kept more as pets, with hammocks, quilts an all manner of toys to amuse them. Even get a special diet nowadays!!

so what do you guys use them for?

The idea is you net off every hole you find put youre ferret down and wait for bunny to bolt. The rabbit hits the net at 50mph and you pull it out of the net and break his neck. These days I dont use nets, I stand over the warren with a 10 shot pump action shotgun on full choke, real exciting stuff.

Rabbit is 50p in the fur, far more dressed, around here, but they dont want them shot to bits. Years ago (early 70's) the farmer would give us 5 new pence for each tail, and each bunny was worth a pint for me Dad in the local.

£1.50 round here, rifle shot or shotgun. My game dealer sells them on at £3.50 and cant get enough. All being sold to locals. You can buy domestic rabbits that are bred in France but they dont taste as good as good ol British free range.

We used to get out ferreting loads at college (Newton Rigg) - ate like kings compared to the others with their beans on toast

Don't get out so much now as there's hardly any rabbits round us at the mo - well not mixy ones anyway.

Have any of you guys tried longnetting? I always fancied it but never tried it.
