Basic crash course 30/31/38/39 then you are worth £200/day.

I assume you're joking and forgot to add the smilie.

You may be worth £200pd according to your own bank balance relating to your investment but without experience you'll need to be hand held until you 'know the ropes' and aren't a danger to yourself and others as well as all the inevitable kit damage that newbies cause.

I would start this person on £40 (depending on apparent level of common sense and maturity) and review after day 1.

No. Apprentice scheme.

2 year course working and getting paid 4 days a week, one day at college per week. Simple.

At the end of it, your course turns into a full time position at the firm you've been with for two years.

How can that not be the best way forward?? Unless you're Tony Blair of course 😂.

Totally agree old mill this is how I went about it all was very worth while this was after doing a years unpaid work exp while still at school to. I couldn't afford to go to college and not work but as you said apprenticeships are the best Of both worlds!

Exactly!

I have an apprentice with me now. He's just finished and has decided (I hope) to next do the L3 apprentice scheme at Plumpton.

It's working out very well for him for the aforementioned reasons and very well for me as I don't have enough work for a full time employee right now.
