its called a plasticity test, why on ''earth'' don't customers get the right firms in with the correct experience to start with, there are loads of firms that undertake mortgage reports :001_rolleyes:

 

:thumbup1: Arbs thinking they are suitably qualified to do this, yet get all uppity if a gardener so much as looks at a tree :001_rolleyes:

 

Get a geotech firm in - simple

You might want to have a read of BS 1377-2:1990 first, and maybe BS 5930:1999+A2:2010 Section 4 which specifies methods for field sampling.

 

Or sub the work out to a specialist.

Go to the local library and see if they have a chart of the local soil types.

Ours is very detailed and varied

Pablo, I'd send some samples off to a lab for a proper job or get a geotechnical firm in for this.

How many actually take a soil sample though Lee?

 

In my experience all mortgage reports are required at short notice so there's not enough time to do it properly as Pablo is. I usually use a soil map to make a fairly general comment about the local soil type in a mortgage report.

I can take a soil sample [if I can't determine exact soil type or the lender/insurer requests it] and have it indexed in 48 hours £40 plus vat
