Large conifer removal advice

Had a look at this job a while back , basicaly i quoted to remove entire tree which wouldnt realy be a problem , however now it seems only a third of tree is wanting to be removed.

the section that needs to be removed is that which is covering the frontage of the home as seen in pic below.

the section to be removed is about 1/3 of the tree , at the base it splits into 2 but from inspection doesnt have the best of unions and evidence of bulging on the stem.

the remaining section to stay is a very hefty piece that runs straight up, taking into account weight distribution i am slightly worried about carrying this work out , the root plate on the side to be removed (driveway) is virtualy none existant compared to the lawned side which clearly has compensated with extra growth. when the driveway was laid a year ago there was no signs of roots , which again is slightly worrying due to its size.

over time i have notice the gap at the top of the tree getting larger.

i have put across my point of remove and replant with a lovely broadleaf in the middle of the lawn , however the owner of the tree isnt going to fit the section of the bill , but is letting the neighbour pay to have the section removed.

went back there today after they called me up just after i posted this- after putting my points across about liability issues, they have decided to just have branches removed upto the top window.

so from a large job to medium to very small - thats life . however they were glad i was honest with them , and then since added more work around the garden plus neighbours so there always light at end of tunnel.

Removing a third of the tree only should cost well over half of the original price to fell. Don't go in at a third of the cost!!

i understand , hence partail removal was half of full . . shame didnt get it but it stands real nice on the estate:001_cool:

I feel for the neighbour, it's not a nice tree and it's way over the boundary, glad its not my house:) I see this problem alot, the tree owner isn't affected so they won't want to pay usually, the affected party want it sorted so they offer to pay. Even if you trim it up as you say it won't really benefit the neighbour as its a Connie and they never really look great when you start messing with them. Good luck mate.
