We just dab a bit of copper grease on the threads every so often and it tightens and slackens ok?

Was about to say the same, we found that the threads go tight before the clamp is fully nipped, had a customer with a newish chipper the other week with the same problem, greased the threads and the problem was solved.

going forwards the new A530s are coming with the new 2 bolt clamping system which has been fitted to the 540s for a while now, it is alot better but it is not easily retro fitted as the connection is different on the chute and the hopper top:confused1::thumbdown:

I have to say a big thanks to Andy (treequip) for sorting this out for me. Basically got the original design back on now. It works as well as I remember the old one to but I will try the copper grease because it does still need to be really cranked up tight to stop wobble and the chute wandering round in circles.

The mole grips were nearly fool proof though and very quick to change chute direction and removing chute.
