Jensen A530 pto problem

Hi all,

 

Having a problem with the belts on my Jensen pto, they seem to be wearing quiet heavily, replaced them 2 weeks ago but today 1 of them packed in and the other 2 are badly worn so will have to replace again does anyone know what is causing this, cracking machine otherwise

Sounds like the bearings may be going. Which belts are wearing quickly?

try using a solid triple band belt

It's the 3 belts driving the chipper, I'm running it on a layland daf truck, would this have anything to do with it like I say it's running very nice other than this problem

How are the belts tensioned? Assuming that you were using quality belts, and not too much HP, they should last a fair while if correctly tensioned. Duff bearings should not have that much effect on a matched set of belts....

I'm not hugely mechanically minded but they are tensioned with a normal bolt where you loosen the nut to give you slack to turn bolt to move the pulley and when you think you've enough tension just tighten you nut again, the truck is a 4x4 45/150 I'll send some pics tomorrow

are the pulleys running in line with each other?

 

also you get standard belts and you get kevlar belts (i think ) for high stress jobs

Good to know that because the last set of belts only cost me €12 in total for the three. Also am wondering is the pto a problem I.e the gearing of it but again its running lovely, what are the symptoms if a chipper isn't geared right?

The gearing would need to be out by a huge margin before in had an diverse effect on the belts.

 

What wrecks belts is misalignment, over tension or too slack. You can also damage them if you "dump" the power in too quick.

 

The price you paid for three belts is less than I would expect to pay for one, were they up to the job?
