yes the angle of the rope is proportional to the reative load exerted on the anchor.

 

if x is the internal angle of the rope passing through the pully or scrotch an T is the load exerted by whatever you are using to pull the formular is 2Tcosx.

 

thats it break out the calculators, just remember that if internal angle is 0 deg ie strait up and down like a rigging block then the reaction at the apex of the block is x2 if the internal angle is 90 degrees then the reaction is 141 % or x1.41 about.......

 

we could get really anal about this but that is on a static falcrum cos if you do sky lines something even wearder happends.

 

when people do loler inspector cources they need to have a basic understanding of some of these basic principals or leverage and movment, also when doing rigging and sky line training as it is very easy to magnify forces to a deadly level

A quick way of demonstrating the above explanations to original question is.

 

You can pull your own weight up on the climbing system because its halved.

 

Unhitch yer prussik and give the other end of the rope to the groundie (you in harness)

 

Unless he's much heavier than you he won't be able to pull you up the tree as he has all your weight.
