Ok question. I asked my instuctor if I could use a micro pulley (see pictures below) could take my weight as an anchor point (nb im note a fatty before you quip). He said no?

Ive been researching loads for my 41 assessment and from what I found drew up the below table. Rarely will a piece fall 9.81 so I erred on the side of caution and just used a multiplication factor of 10m/s.

So from what I gather I could lower max 1.5 ton on a micro pulley if static no free fall. I weigh less than a ton so surley I can use it as an anchor?

My calculation work out at 350kg as a safe working load to be using regularly. 1.5ton! Is very close to/at its breaking point even when top roped!

How were you planning on attaching the pulley to the tree?

Marc.. yeah I wouldn't lower off it and most likely hardly use it but just learning to gauge weights.

I use that pulley as the occasional lowering pulley maybe when reducing over a greenhouse for example. I doubt I'd exceed 100kg at most in this situation so well within limits. Just concerned how you got the figure 1500kg that's breaking point!

Attatch with sling and krab or prussik and krab maybe?

The krab part may have been his concern, especially in a training situation. Remote krabs aren't the best idea imo.

I had one mallioned onto a ring-ring cambium saver for a few years.

What a great thread, but what has happened to it? :confused1:

I would love to see some more info here and pictures aswell. Rich Rules pictures were good and clear and Rupe did some great video, more please:thumbup:

Also, as everyone says about the importance of a good groundie, some tips and videos of the friction device in action would, I feel, be of some use too.
