Hi all,

What do you use to disinfect your saws with, we have an Oak with Acute Oak Decline to dismantle and disinfecting tools is recommended by the FC using Virkon, ethanol or Lysol, I would be interested in other products you use to clean your tools and boots with, especially more natural products.

Cheers

Not any help with more natural products - but can vouch for Virkon - quite expensive but a fantastic product.

When felling Lawson Cypress trees infected with Phytophthora lateralis we used industrial methylated spirits to disinfect everything.

Hi Guys!

Used to have alloy bodied trucks for horse transportation. Had to disinfect between loads & countries, Virkon eats alloy!

If you must use it, make sure you get it off.....

Speak to the owners of alloy wheeled vehicles entering farms with barrier disinfectant at entrance and I'm sure they will tell you same stories on 5k wheels.

Defra will post what is best, they do not care about these other issues. Virkon is great at its job, but the side effect is very expensive.

If possible use a hot pressure washer for the truck, and a product called propeller for tools and boots. Doesn't smell, hasn't done any damage that I can see used (on/off) for over a year. The Fc are happy with that as its what I've been doing on P, ramoram sites.
