tims statement pretty much sums it up, just think back to jobs over the last 6 months and think which setup would A- carry out the task most efficiently and B make/save you the most money. depends on your work load too, If you are confident that you will be getting BIG tree jobs regularly in the future then Mog will probably be best but you don't want all that equipment sitting around if half the time you are doing trees in back gardens etc.

Yeah but how many tree surgery jobs require 19ton on the drag? Not to mention not be able to get down driveways without cracking slabs/manholes etc, dripping oil everywhere, for most domestic tree surgery i couldn't think of a setup less ideal.

Indeed , some days I will do 2 trimming jobs , 2/3 small reductions a stump and will just take the iveco 3.5 t and not even fill it

im thinking another 3.5t tipper would do my job and run 2, but as with this job busy as this month next month nothing so its swing and roundabouts really.But i think a 3.5t tipper does not have the capacity to do big tree work without a few trips to unload.

Used to run a renault 6.6 ton tipper with a 6 " mobile plus a merc 208 tipper and a car. That was my basic set up for 16 years. In 2000 I bought a Mog which I still have and run with a Farmi 260 10" chipper and I have a 8 Ton Muller trailer.The car is now a Toyota Double cab. Never had a problem using the mog on any job. Hedges I take the Toyota and I don't need a car to do all the boring stuff, shopping etc.

i know its a bit away from the thread but reading about all the loading capabalities why dont you guys get a 7.5 tonner as i worked for a few companies before and they are a god send just one down side you will never get them onto drive ways.

Maybe due to lack of the right licence??

I agree on the loading issues by had to disagree on the driveway comments. I have worked for quite a number of companies running o license vehicles. I reckon I can count on one hand the number of times we couldn't get them onto the driveways. You would not have bee able to get a transit sized vehicle on there either.

 

One guy even had the 7.5t'er body narrowed to fit 7' width restrictions. Was a great drive aswell around London.

Indeed. I went back to a site that I got the 18 tonner into about 2 years ago, it was tight getting the navara and chipper in on the latest visit. It took me about 15 minutes to reverse the lorry in the first time, but saved hours by getting the crane to the tree.

 

7.5 tonners can get most places, they have tight steering lock and minimal overhang for manouvering in tight spaces.

i think that could do more but the iveco euro cargos seem to be great the one down side is the licences but still good for in london and the surronding area.
