Push bikes and punctures

what has happened to the quality of puncture patches these days, i used to whack those little blighters on in seconds, air up and away we go. Nowadays they just seem to be ike everything else, low grade rubbish! I got me a new kit out of cycle shop in town yesterday, just in case, and went out this am and managed to pick up a leak. Just used 3 patches, they just drop off, is it the glue, or the patches, or both? I dont recall these problems in times gone by.

In all seriousness though I have noticed the same, can I get them to hold air? Can I heck...

could be the glue or the inner tubes is made of non stick teflon lol

It's not just the patches. I rode a lightweight GT road bike for 20,000 miles around South London/Surrey and had maybe 20 punctures on narrow tyres at 70+ psi. Then I bought a hybrid 'Land Rover' branded bike for road/good path cycling and can't get more than 10 miles without a flat. And you're right; the patches just don't hold. But it seems the tyres they're meant to stick to aren't much better.

Probably like most things they have taken some of the solvents out to protect the enviroment. Our 2004 merc vito rotted into the floor as it was sprayed with water based paint. I cant see solvent in glue making much difference when you see the fumes in a petrol station but thats life, worlds gone mad. Next thing you know we will have hole countries going bust and getting their own currency.

Thank goodness. I thought it was me not being able to mend a puncture. I only ever carry spare tyres now

I buy strips of patches and vulcanising solution from a bike shop and I find now that you really need to let the glue almost dry before applying the patch. Then leave the paper or foil backing in place until the glue has cured properly or the edges will start to come unstuck.

andy next time your near a asda, grab some of this stuff.. £2.50 a bottle.

Its the quality of glue now made due to EU control

I use Scabs. Seem to work really well.
