Price for 8' gate posts 7' posts and 5'6 stakes at road side

Recommended Posts

Hi I have been offered a job to thin about 12 acres of Norway spruce. The woodland has never been thinned before. The owner is not sure how old but I guess 25/30 year old there are some good size trees to which will make timber. But the owner wants to thin now and in 5 years clearfell. The trees are great tall and clean.

He wants me to do the job for the timber, I am more use to hard wood and not sure on what the going rate is for softwood at roadside. The trees will make 8' gate posts 7' posts and 5'6 stakes.

I will need to get a digger in to make the path wider, As it is now it is tight to get a quad down there. I know a guy with a 13 ton digger he is going to work out a price.

All the trees will fell down to the new ride I will need to put in to gain access for are tractor.

I just need a rough price for softwood at roadside to work out if this job is worth taking on or not.

Sounds like you might get an odd bit of Pallet or Dunnage out too - last time we asked, Euroforest were offering around £28-£30/T for those at roadside.

Don't tend to bother wasting time cutting fencing grade as it's a lot of faff. Easier and faster to chuck in the chip pile.
