Roughneck here as well. Bulletproof.

 

Lighter head seems to leave me less knackered at the end of the day, especially on the more easy splitting stuff.

 

Best going somewhere that sells a few different types/weights and giving them a heft. Personal choice and all that.

Well, Santa bought me the Fiskars maul in the end and i am well chuffed with it. Will go and test it out tomo, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day!

i was back home this xmas and popped over to a friends parents to say hello. i was speaking to his step dad who, mid conversation got rather excited. they have wood burners in most room and he ran off to the garage to show me his new splitting maul. 7 quid from aldi, he was so chuffed he bought two! i didn't swing it but gotta admit i have seen mauls in arb suppliers for a heck of a lot more...:001_tongue:

Well, i've been using the Fiskars Maul for a week or so to get rid of the backlog of splitting i wanted to do and i can say, it is fantastic and does it's job very well. Well balanced and tough as old boots so far. Splits really nicely. So thanks for the advice.:001_cool:
