I've had my 660 for just over a year although I've hardly used it, maybe 7-8hr. Unfortunatly its just ran out of warranty I noticed the chain brake gets very hard if not impossible to apply. It's also started to backfire when I turn it off, bad times :(

Mines OK ringing up smaller stuff, becomes a problem on larger rings and useless when milling!

As I see it depends how long the exhaust is blowing back on the handle without cooling in between cuts, long cuts quickly repeated cause a problem.

Modded can with twin port cures this.

The one I bought does not cure this, and it cost £25

It's to do with the plastic part of the brake handle being so close to an exhaust exit port and a lot of heat gets to it allowing it to flex excessively, I managed to jam the brake over the front of the exhaust, now have a slightly melted handle. I think a piece of metal would certainly cure this and prevent the issue.

Has anyone actually been able to fix this problem? Mine rubs on the top of the exhaust when it gets hot and won't actually click onto the chainbrake unless you push it into the exhaust..

HI JAMES im told by a top stihl dealer stihl now fit a new exhaust so i will wait and see if that does it thanks jon

But if its just a new stihl part then the problem is the same. The port on the right hand side still heats up the handle and also the heat radiating from it won't help either.
