Plus that crane trailer has a nose weight of 400kg as stated in the ad, most vehicles have a max nose of 75kg with defenders at 150kg, so you would need a mog or a tractor tow it legally??? :thumbdown:

 

The maximum nose weight of a 3500kg drawbar trailer is <350kg or <10% of the trailer GVW (whichever is less) for it still to be considered a drawbar (D or Dc type) trailer behind cars, vans, 4x4 and lorry’s, if a 3500kg trailer has a nose weight of more than >350kg or >10% of the trailer GVW then it is a semi-trailer!

 

It also looks to have a knott KFG35 coupling on which themselves are limited to 150kg nose weight ("Zul Stützlast 150kg", also known as "S 150kg" where S = Stützlast, ) so it has an inappropriate towing coupling fitted which would make it illegal behind any vehicle on the road. :thumbdown:

 

FYI: Zul Stützlast = permissible/maximum vertical load, this is in static value expressed in kg as opposed to a “V” value which is dynamic computation for vertical load under movement in relation to D & Dc values which are all expressed in KN.

 

from the point of view of fitting a crane either side of the headboard of a IW trailer, about half the weight of the crane will be imparted on the towing hitch as nose weight, once you get to 14ft to 18ft IW trailers it will be more than half of the crane weight as the distance the crane is from the towing ball/pin is shorter than the distance the crane is from the 1st trailer axel, going tri-axel dose help this and reduces the effect of the crane on nose weight, but even so on 16ft to 18ft trailers it has less effect than on 12ft and 14ft tri-axel trailers.

I think i should go down the dumpy route as i sell my hilux single cab full of barn dried hardwood for £75.00 and it takes 3 full dumpy bags to fill the back of my truck.id be on a winner selling dumpy bags.

 

your pick up with 3 dumpies worth of wood on must literally be spilling wood everywhere!! My old brava (slightly bigger buck to a hilux) held 1.2cube (2 dumpies) and that was heaped right up!! No way could I get 3 on my l200 now. I take 1.8cube out with my 8x5 tipping ifor and thats heaped to buggery!!

 

There is easier ways to make £75 quid my friend.

You may be able to get round the tacho rule if you stay close to home not sure, u will need to check. My discovery will handle 250kg on the hitch if you have nothing in the boot you need to keep rear axle under 1800 kg. The hitch will wear out quick . If you mount crane in middle things would be alot better. I would fit an engine on the draw bar I find electric pumps painfully slow. Otherwise it looks a good bit of kit if you have good access.

Hi, This is how we deliver our dumpys, they are the 900x900 bags and as you can see we get six on at a time.

We have two of these trailers, and just wanted to know what your thoughts were on how to value them.

 

HI MATE do you think it better to have the crane in the middle of trailer as the weight is on the axles thanks jon :thumbup:

You may be able to get round the tacho rule if you stay close to home not sure, u will need to check. My discovery will handle 250kg on the hitch if you have nothing in the boot you need to keep rear axle under 1800 kg. The hitch will wear out quick .

 

Only if you are carry equipment, tools etc to carry out work on site. That is not the case with firewood which is deliver and go.

Distance limit is 50 kms, over that is Tacho irrespective of what you are doing.

Hi I did a lot of homework on which trailer to use, the six wheel trailer is the only one to work effectivley. The crane needs to be mounted inside the trailer which minimizes the amount of twist in the chassis. Nose weight of the trailer is not excessive in fact you can fully retract the jockey wheel and the trailer does not drop to the ground, as once the front axel takes the weight there is more weight behind the front axel than in front of it so it's reasonably well balanced. The problem I see with mounting a crane in the middle is not many cranes do 360 and a problem with picking up big butts and trunks.
